Comedy Improv Show. It's September, 1981 at Millard Fillmore Elementary School in Randy Lakes, NJ. Post it notes have just been invented, MTV has hit the airwaves and Ronald Regan is President. Follow the students of Mrs. Carrol's Spelling and Vocabulary Class as they improvise their way through the 3rd grade armed only with their Houghton Mifflin primers. After successful runs of vIRTEgo and HINT! which Outerstage called "a clever cacophony of topical humor, retro references, and on-their-feet wit ... a merry chase" , IRTE is heading back to school with their latest long-form improvised comedy. Long form improv is "unscripted theater" focused on developing strong, fun characters and plot. Taking just a few suggestions from the audience, the cast of Mrs. Carrol's will create a new play every night, completely on the fly. Oh, and by the way, you've got some red on you. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=question&id=1936345405993&qa_ref=pt Please note, I will not do any promoting for your band/group/whatever. My intent is not to make a profit from this. Also, there is 1,000,000+ people attending, of course trolls will happen. Just don't feed them and you'll be fine!

Make Love Not Hate
January 1, 2013 at 12:00 PM
Our little town has been through so much in the past 5 years so many kids have been victims of bullying and harrassment. The fact that so many young kids that we know on a personal level have gone through enough pain to take their own lives should be a wakeup call that our words do affect people in ways we don't even know. Be apart of this group to show that there are people in this town who you talk to, and can turn to in a time of need. Be the difference in Pleasanton and help stop all the hate towards anyone being harrasses. Everyone has bad days and sometimes alot of little things can push someone over the edge. If you support the fight against bullying and want to make a difference in this town, write on the wall and say something about how bullying makes you feel and that youll be there if anyone ever needs to talk.

Draft of the Medusa
May 15, 2012 at 11:00 PM
It's my birthday. This is the theme. I'm not exactly sure how you should interpret that. Regardless, you should be there. The French naval frigate Méduse ran aground off the coast of today's Mauritania on July 5, 1816. For sustenance the crew of the raft had only a bag of ship's biscuit and a few casks of wine. Chaos ensued. At least 147 people were set adrift on a hurriedly constructed raft; all but 15 died in the 13 days before their rescue, and those who survived endured starvation, dehydration, cannibalism and madness. Pre-party will be at the Met, because it combines two of my favorite things, art and alcohol: http://www.facebook.com/events/251351254962857/.

Give & Go Green 2012 Free food!
May 8, 2012 at 12:00 PM
WHAT IS IT? 1) Awesome 2) EcoReps' biggest initiative on campus HOW DOES IT WORK? 1) You give us the stuff you no longer want. 2) We donate it (eg: Good Will) or store it over the summer. 3) The stuff we store, we sell at the beginning of Fall (super cheap). EXAMPLE: It costs more money to store your fridge than to keep it. You give it to us. And buy one from us (perhaps even the same one!) for $20 the next semester (instead of paying each month for storage!) HOW CAN I TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT Drop off your stuff in bins around campus (College Walk, Hartley, John Jay, Lerner, Broadway, McBain, East Campus) When? From May 8th to until May 11th, 12PM to 4PM FUCK THAT, HOW DO I GET INVOLVED IN IT ( i.e. FREE HOUSING, FREE FOOD & FREE JUNK UNTIL MAY 21st)? Apply here: http://tinyurl.com/7x9qouq (Hurry, the deadline is Friday April 27th!) If you have more questions, email us at cuecoreps@gmail.com ****************************************** (More information) What to donate: We're looking for books, clothing, dorm decorations, fridges, office supplies, unique trinkets from exotic locales, etc. Anything that's in good condition and re-usable is fair game. Over 400 MILLION POUNDS OF TEXTILES ARE THROWN AWAY IN NYC EACH YEAR…help us save a few! Donate clothes and textiles, wearable or torn, ugly, and old. Last year were Good Will's biggest donation since 2006! Exact locations of drop off bins: - College Walk - Hartley: behind the guard desk - John Jay: to the right next to the vending machines - Lerner: near the new recycling station in the main lobby - Broadway: straight behind guard desk at the back of the lounge - McBain: in the lounge with the piano - East Campus:through the guard room, against the brick wall to the right - Ruggles: small bin in front of the guard in the left hand corner. - Carman:left of the guard desk and before the door to the lactation room - Woodbridge: when you face the security guard on the right next to the table We're looking for volunteers, but WTF does that mean?! A. During finals - manning the drop off locations B. After finals - manning the drop off locations - dorm storm: go on different floors and grab stuff people left behind if it can be stored - sort and clean all the collected items In exchange for this service: we house you, feed you and give you stuff for free. => Take a look at the application (and apply, duh) http://tinyurl.com/7x9qouq (only CC and SEAS for housing reasons)

This Columbia Life
May 6, 2012 at 09:00 PM
Imagine if you captured “Columbia” in a jar – all the people, places, and things that populate your life as a Columbia undergraduate – and opened it up. What would it sound like? “This Columbia Life” is an hour-long talk radio program and oral history project dedicated to that open-ended question. A collaboration between the Arts and News departments of WKCR 89.FM NY, “This Columbia Life” that will air Sunday, May 6th from 9 to 10PM to explore the theme of what it means to be a Columbia student through first-person narratives, music, and sound. The program will be knit together by students, for students, and entirely from the contributions of students. We are every so curious, keen, and hungry to hear your stories of what being a part of this eclectic, sometimes wonderful, sometimes not-so-wonderful, Columbia community means. Interested? Our e-mail is thiscolumbialife@gmail.com and you can contribute to this project in several ways: 1) Hit record and tell a story. Record your environment or an experience you are having. ANNUAL CU/NYU BROOKLYN BRIDGE DANCE!
May 5, 2012 at 06:30 PM
In the darkest corners of the dingiest bars along the New York City waterfront, there are those who know a dark truth about the waters beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. Stevedores speak in hushed voices about missing dockworkers, men vanished in the dead of night. They speak of a shape, half-glimpsed by moonlight, moving beneath the black waves. If it has a name besides the screams of those it takes, it is as much a mystery as such a creature existing. Cigarettes burn to stubs and glasses of brew sit untouched as the stevedores talk into the night. What do they do? How long until the beast is no longer satisfied with the fringes of society within its reach? How long until those manifold pale white limbs haul themselves onto the city sidewalks? Will there be anything we can do once it walks among us? The man in the corner speaks, the one with the scar tracing his face, one eye blind and white. His back is bent from years of work along the docks. That eye--his good one--has seen too much in his time. "Triple step." he says, quietly. The others look at him. "Step, step, triple step. Don't you see, you fools? The creature's lullaby. We must lull it back to sleep with an eight-count jazz dance. The only thing that can soothe the beast." The others look up with hope and fear in their eyes, each vying for control. "But we don't know how to dance." One of the younger ones says. The old man turns his gaze on the young dockworker. "Then we better hope, for all our sakes, that someone does." And so it has come to pass that the intrepid swing kids of Columbia and NYU each year must jive, must jump and, yea, must wail upon the Fulton Ferry Landing Pier in Brooklyn, NY. Let us summon the forces of sweet syncopation and mollify once more that lurking Kraken upon whose gentle slumber countless lives depend! *********** >>>WHAT'S HAPPENING<<<*********** THE PLAN: Meet at 6:30 pm on the Manhattan side of the bridge. Walk across. Fortify our bodies with delicious overpriced ice cream and send the tentacled beast to dreamland with a few hours of raucous dancing as the sun sets. COLUMBIA: We'll probably leave from the 116th gates at 5:30. More details about where we're going exactly, and how we're getting there, are coming soon! NYU: We'll be meeting up at the Starbucks on campus at 6:00 tomorrow to take the train down there. We will tap our wrists impatiently once there while we wait for the slowpoke Columbia kids to arrive.

Give + Go Green 2012
May 4, 2012 at 09:00 AM
Summer is fast approaching, which means it’s time to start thinking about moving out and Give and Go Green! For those of you who don’t know about Give and Go Green, it is an initiative organized by the Barnard EcoReps that seeks to reduce the amount of waste thrown away by students at the end of the school year. Every year, we throw out perfectly useful clothes, appliances, books, toiletries, and more because we simply can’t keep them over the summer. Instead of giving all of that to the landfill, give it to someone in need! Barnard will collect what you don’t want or can’t take home and donate it to great local organizations. Last year we filled three fifteen-foot trucks full of donations!!! WOAH! The Barnard EcoReps are looking for students who can commit to staying late to help organize this years Give and Go Green initiative. Available students will receive FREE EXTENDED HOUSING through May 17nd, 2012. We will also be offering breakfast the extended housing days. Volunteers must be responsible for keeping donation stations orderly in shifts from May 4th through May 17th, and commit to be present on those days. They must also present for a night of donation organization on May 16th and a full day of work the last day, when the donations are collected, on May 17th .

Recommended prices will be listed for two categories: Like New and Used. - Fill in your sheet with individual book prices and then add up your price total for the entire bundle. - We'll have tables organized by price range for you to stand by your books until first-years come around to purchase them. - You can either sell your bundle or sell individual books. You can also change your prices if you see fit. It's up to you! 2015, here's how it works: - Bring cash, determine your price range, and browse around. Books will be organized in bundles, but depending on the seller, you may be able to buy individual books and also barter down prices. ENCORE SESSION #5 / Little Dragon Live @ Le Baron Chinatown
May 3, 2012 at 07:00 PM
Doors open at 7pm | Show starts at 8pm 32 Mulberry Street (cross Mosco) Click Join (top right corner) | The venue reserves the right of admission Details will be shared with those who join prior to the event. *** *** Like our page for Future events announcements & exclusive invites, behind the scene footage and artist interviews </:D> *** *** ABOUT THEM: On the surface the quiet port city of Gothenburg doesn't seem like it would harbor much soul music but it comes through in the dreamy rhythmical shifting moody creature that is Little Dragon. The four-piece band blends R&B, new wave, electronica and experimental pop. They kicked off 2011 with a headlining tour of the U.S. and thanks to a recommendation from superfan Questlove of the Roots, a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in March. In May, Little Dragon appeared on the track "Just Don't" from Raphael Saadiq's Stone Rollin', a record some are already calling the album of the year. Big Boi and DJ Shadow called to invite the group to work on new music. And it seems that the rest of the world is starting to catch on to what tastemakers from BBC's Gilles Peterson and the DJs at Los Angeles' influential KCRW have known for years. On July 26th, 2011 Little Dragon will release Ritual Union, an album which finds futuristic, trance-like rhythms mixed with the soulful vibes of their debut LP plus upfront and danceable sounds of Machine Dreams. - CrystalFilm - : http://youtu.be/EDVrTYW2l84 - Ritual Union - : http://youtu.be/0Yeb3q5nqWA Website : http://little-dragon.net/ Facebook : http://www.facebook.com/littledragonpage *** *** WHAT THEY SAID: “Little Dragon makes pop music for folks who think they hate pop music” - NPR “But you need to listen to it if only because rarely do young bands step forward so quickly with something this majestic and memorable and modern. Little Dragon’s evolution will be fun to listen to. Maybe even more than Prince’s next three albums.” - ESQUIRE “Sure to be your sultry summer soundtrack.” - Complex “If it was a love invocation, it worked. Swoon!” - Fader “If you’re looking for a new band to love, this little Swedish electro/soul outfit could be what you’ve been waiting for.” - Huffington Post “The sweet spot separating Motown and Paisley Park” - Esquire “An alternatively propulsive and delicate sound dictated by strains of electro and the striking vocal coo of Yukimi Nagano.” - Spin “You can dance to these tracks, but you can also just chill out to them-the music is a sort of indie jazz that’ll suit any type of playlist.” - Teen Vogue “…Richly textured and highly vibe-y electronic music that could soundtrack both the dance party (“Night Light,” “Little Man”) and the chill-out room (“Crystalfilm,” “When I Go Out”). - RollingStone.com “Pressing yet vulnerable, the title track on the new “Ritual Union” sounds like an electro-tweaked update of the sleek Holland-Dozier-Holland-produced hits of mid-’60s Motown. “ - Washington Post *** *** Stay tuned </:D>

Butler Smells! Come to Hillel!
May 2, 2012 at 07:30 AM
RESERVE A GROUP STUDY SPACE AT HILLEL: http://bit.ly/hillelstudy There I was the other night, slaving away on the 3rd floor of Butler on my last pre-finals assignment when all of a sudden I smelled it. Kind of a cloying, horrible smell - half fart, half death, half rotting fruit, half musty books - I couldn't focus on anything but the smell. My work suffered. Additionally, and totally separately, I was very hungry. It was then that I made a solemn vow - that I would "Kraft" a space where all people could come together free of stinky libraries to bask in a land of milk and cinnamon toast crunch. Where people would be judged not by their finals workload, but by which of our delicious finals drinks they were enjoying (coffee? tea? soda? juice? water?)...or not judged at all, that's definitely preferable. So that's why, for the first time ever since last semester, Columbia/Barnard Hillel will once again be hosting our annual, yet always revolutionary, "Butler Smells! Come to Hillel!" The building will have extended hours every night (Open until 2 AM!), snacks out round the clock (totally free, courtesy of Columbia/Barnard Hillel!), excellent, varied study spaces (reserve a group space here: http://bit.ly/hillelstudy or just come on in and grab an open table!) and much, much more! See you there! Brought to you by the Columbia/Barnard Hillel Executive Board!

Happy May Day! 30,000-50,000 or even more in NYC! 1,500,000+ across the whole world, keep on keepin on! Organize! & Stand Up For Our Rights!
May 1, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Great work everyone!! Happy May Day! - If you didn't get a chance to come out or you want more, meet up at Columbia gates at 5pm on Thursday May 3rd for a mini-march to Manhattan School of Music -- the pre-college faculty have been struggling for a raise and the administration said they won't give even a $1/hour raise to faculty with PhDs! -- They'll be leafletting outside MSM as they host a $1,250/plate dinner and are asking for any solidarity we can give. --> Thurs 5/3 5:00pm @ B'way gates -- or meet us later at MSM (122nd street just West of Broadway) If you want to keep track of the group / or you're coming late and want to find us -- simply sign up for our text feed via twitter! (no smartphone necessary) ------ Text "follow maydaycu" to 40404. -------- We'll update you Tell your friends. Speakers include: Professor Mindy Fullilove, Professor Eric Foner, CU Clerical Workers Union UAW 2110 President Maida Rosenstein, Nellie Bailey of Harlem Tenant's Council, and more confirming!... (and of course, you!) Why May Day? On May 1st, 1886, hundreds of thousands of workers won the 8-hour work day. After years of organizing in the workplace, workers went on General Strike in Chicago and across the US and forced the bosses and the state to finally accede to something we take for granted today -- and we still haven't won the 8-hour work day for everyone. May Day became an International Workers' Holiday but was suppressed in the USA, until 6 years ago. In 2006, after decades of minimal May Day mobilizations, a mass immigrants rights movement organized one of the largest mobilizations in US History -- over 1.5 million people marched across the country to demand justice for immigrants. Now, in 2012, we have inherited these struggles, and if we look at history we can see, if we want to win the 8-hour workday for everyone, justice for immigrants, and any of our human rights, we need to demand them. Join us at the Sundial at 12noon. (Middle of 116th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam) Students, faculty, community members, and workers will hold a speak-out; at 1:30pm we'll take the subway to the city-wide student convergence at Madison Square Park, and together we'll march to the Immigrants Rights and Labor march at Union Square starting at 4pm. If you have questions or want to get more involved e-mail the Columbia University May Day planning committee at: MayDayCU@gmail.com
